Terms of Service

Last updated: November 1, 2026

These Terms apply to your use of the MezuzahCheck website and app at mezuzahcheck.ozvehadar.org (the "Service"), operated by the Oz VeHadar project ("MezuzahCheck", "we", "us"). By placing an order you agree to these Terms.

The Service may be used by anyone aged 18 or over, or by anyone who has permission from a parent or guardian. If you order on behalf of someone else, such as a family member, a synagogue or a client, you confirm that you are allowed to do so, and these Terms apply to both you and them.

If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service.

1. Definitions

2. The Service

You photograph your mezuzah scrolls and send the photos through the Service. A certified Sofer STaM checks each photo, and we email you a written report for each mezuzah: kosher, kosher with conditions, not kosher, or a new photo needed. The report may also offer optional follow-up services, such as a repair or a new mezuzah, at the prices shown in it.

3. Checking by photo and its limits

4. Prices and payment

4A. Gift checks and gift cards

4B. Paying for services from your report

5. Retakes, refunds and cancellations

6. Your photos and content

You keep ownership of the photos you send. You allow us to store and use them to carry out the check and the report, and to improve the Service. We will not publish photos that identify you or your home without your permission. How we handle your information is described in our privacy policy.

You confirm that you are allowed to take and send the photos, and that they do not infringe anyone else's rights. Please try to photograph only the mezuzah, without people, documents or personal details in the background. We may use photos of scrolls, without identifying details, for training, quality control and improving the Service.

7. The report and its link

8. Permitted use

Use the Service only to check your own mezuzot, or mezuzot you are allowed to send. Do not upload unlawful content, disrupt the Service, or try to access other customers' orders or reports.

In addition, you may not:

We may block access or cancel an order in case of prohibited use.

9. Intellectual property

All rights in the site, the app, the design, the texts, the logo, the MezuzahCheck name and the report format belong to us or to those who allowed us to use them. They may not be copied, distributed or used without written permission, except for personal use of your own report.

10. Third-party services

The Service relies on outside providers, such as Stripe for payment, Google for storage and sending emails, and Cloudflare for hosting the site. Their use is also subject to their own terms. We are not responsible for outages, delays or changes at these providers. Links to other sites, if any, are provided for convenience only, and we are not responsible for their content.

11. Availability of the Service

We do our best to keep the Service working properly, but we do not guarantee that it will always be available, uninterrupted, or free of faults or errors. We may pause the Service for maintenance, change it, and add or remove features, without prior notice.

12. Communicating with you

By placing an order you agree to receive emails from us about your order, such as a confirmation, a request for a new photo, the report and a receipt. The email address you give is the main way we contact you, and you are responsible for making sure it is correct and for checking your spam folder too. A message sent to the email address you gave is considered received.

13. Disclaimer

The Service and the reports are provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we give no warranty that is not expressly written in these Terms, including fitness for a particular purpose.

Without limiting the above, we do not guarantee that the Service will suit your particular needs, that the results of the check will match the opinion of a specific rabbi, or that every defect in the parchment will be found.

14. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid for the order the claim relates to. We are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we, our examiners, employees and partners are not liable for damage caused by using the Service or by relying on the report, including expenses, loss of income or non-monetary damage. These limits apply even if we were told in advance that damage was possible.

15. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us for any damage, expense or claim we incur because of your breach of these Terms, because of photos or details you provided, or because of unlawful use of the Service.

16. Force majeure

We are not liable for delay or failure to perform caused by circumstances beyond our control, such as war, a security situation, an epidemic, a strike, a power or communications outage, a provider outage or a natural disaster.

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. Each order is governed by the Terms in effect when it was placed. The date at the top of the page shows the latest version.

18. Refusing orders and ending use

We may refuse an order, cancel an order or end a customer's use of the Service at our discretion, for example in case of prohibited use, false details or photos that are not of mezuzot. If we cancel an order we have not started working on, what was paid for it will be refunded.

19. Disputes

Any dispute related to the Service will be resolved by arbitration at the Rabbinical Court (Beit Din) in Jerusalem.
